"Cool Guy" (2024) 12x14 Pen For my visual thinking class, the prompt was to draw your 'favorite place' without directly illustrating a scene. In Pittsfield, Massachusetts, my local mom-and-pop shop right down the street is, by far, my favorite comfort place. The smell of the old linoleum, crunch bars, and familiar faces, is one of the things I look forward to whenever I go back home.
"Circle of Friends" (2022) 14x10 Watercolor, graphite, marker, clippings, with tracing paper, on watercolor paper "You can tell what kind of person someone is, by the shoes they're wearing," Is a motto that led me to this piece. No matter what someone is wearing, friends will be friends, people will be people. Beyond material possession, is connection.
"RIP Elliot Smith, You Would've Loved Sadcore Edits on Tik Tok" (2024) 3ftx3ft Recycled fabric, cardboard, felt, paper on mounted board "Make a layered piece based on your favorite song," Was what my teacher said. So "Roman Candle" by Elliot Smith was my choice. To illustrate the feeling of the song, I wrapped an old quilt around the board, patchworking its pieces together, before going in with the fine details. A small house, flames are done in deco paper surrounding a maiden with a candle.
"Girls & Guns" (2024) 12"x12" Watercolor, marker, colored pencil Combining two aspects of Americana, girls and guns. Going off of the concept of feminity, dolls, and combining it with the grotesque masculine nature of our culture, came the idea of poseable dolls, with guns for legs.
"The Last Supper, but Make It Modern" (2024) 12"x12" Watercolor, marker, colored pencil
"Self Portrait" (2024) 12"x12" Pen
"Why Wasn't I There?" (2023) 10"x5" Gouache, acrylic, deco paper, felt Tasked to construct a book as my final project for design, we were told to illustrate 'migration.' The immigration of families to the United States is a legacy that shapes the lives of many citizens within this country. Decades ago, both sides of my family migrated to the US. To escape poverty, to escape war, to find a new beginning. Humble beginnings.
